A New Year

The forecast is ok but the wind is expected to swing Easterly later in the day, so better to be at launch earlier rather than later. Its not what you would call a "classic" thermalling day, but I launch well, into a 10 knot SSW wind. I'm only finding ridge lift and manage only 157 m above launch. Trying to top land the lift fades and I end up below the ridge, I look at landing on one of the spurs running down the face of the hill but think better of it, pushing out in front to land in the LZ paddock. With no pickup available I decide to climb the hill, an hour later I stagger on to launch completely stuffed. I won't be coming up that way again. After a good half an hour rest I am ready to go. Conditions haven't improved so I stick to ridge soaring over the launch site and when the lift dies completely I successfully top land for the first time at Moir's.
